Freezing weather and heavy snowfall has caused chaos in Greece and Turkey over the past two days. In Greece, many shops and businesses were closed while Athens International Airport struggled to stay open with over 200 flights being cancelled. The suburban train network was not operating and icy roads resulted in numerous accidents.
In Turkey, hundreds of motorists were stranded as various major roads were closed. In Ankara, 355 traffic accidents were reported while in Istanbul more than 500 accidents occurred. A number of villages in both countries were cut off due to the bad weather conditions. |
